Biotin

Biotin, also known as vitamin B8 or vitamin H, is a water-soluble B vitamin. Authorized health claims (EU Regulation 432/2012): biotin contributes to maintaining normal hair; biotin contributes to maintaining normal skin; biotin contributes to normal energy metabolism. These claims are authorized when the daily intake provides at least 15% of the NRV. Scientific literature documents biotin as a coenzyme in several metabolic reactions involved in the synthesis of fatty acids, amino acids, and glucose. It is involved in the metabolism of skin appendage cells (hair, nails). Note: EFSA authorized claims for biotin concern maintaining normal skin and hair; any more specific communication must remain consistent with the authorized claims framework.
